Updating rkhunter dat

View all Posts Ravi Saive I am Ravi Saive, creator of Tec Mint.A Computer Geek and Linux Guru who loves to share tricks and tips on Internet.Failed to retrieve security knowledge base updates from the update server. The current knowledge base will be used during security scanning. I have tried trying to run it mannual with rkhunter --update, however, i get the error that this command does not exist, probably because plesk servers are done differently. Rkhunter (Rootkit Hunter) is an open source Unix/Linux based scanner tool for Linux systems released under GPL that scans backdoors, rootkits and local exploits on your systems. It scans hidden files, wrong permissions set on binaries, suspicious strings in kernel etc.

Files checked: 94 Suspect files: 3 Rootkit checks...

I've looked arounf the web and found some info pointing to using the WEB_CMD settign in /etc/rkhunter.conf, however looking at the logs the update command runs a wget command similar to the below each time butthe temp file name changes each time.

Executing download command '/usr/bin/wget -q -O "/var/lib/rkhunter/tmp/

Most Of My Servers runs on Open Source Platform called Linux.

If you are using a Linux system and think that your system is 100% secure then you are wrong.

  4. Let's assume such scenario, which actually happened to me yum install telnet got a message from nightly cron - Warning The file '/usr/bin/telnet' exists on the system, but it is not present in the 'rkhunter.dat' file. rkhunter --propupd /usr/bin/telnet got a message Filename is not in the "rkhunter.dat" file /usr/bin/telnet So now I have to.
